Synopsis

The final chapter is at hand for Norman Osborn. The freed Avengers face a powered up Osborn and an army of Hand ninjas intent on a major throw down with them. This is the concluding chapter for Brian Michael Bendis’ Osborn arc including  revealing the origin of Osborn’s secret powers, the extent of Madame Hydra’s plans, and a final battle including the New Avengers.

“Hey Norman, it’s me! You remember me from that thing that time?”  Spiderman/Peter Parker

Story 3.0 out of 5

This whole arc felt more like a train bumping along the tracks in fits and starts with no real destination than a powerful locomotive barreling down the tracks. Like a second gasp of air, Osborn winds up for one more at bat, this time using the combined might of HYDRA, AIM, the HAND, and HAMMER, and including a newly revamped Dark Avengers line up. Unfortunately this line up never carried the sinister element of his first go around, nor did the media manipulation ever reach its full potential. It’s a wonder given all the resources at Norman’s hands how the Avengers ever stood a chance.

Art 3.5 out of 5

Acuna keeps on keeping on. The colors and inks are solid especially in the destroyed HAMMER headquarters. There are a lot of heroes in this issue, and he manages this load well. Acuna has proven he can handle whatever assignment he’s given very adeptly whether it’s a solo or a team series.

Cover 3.5 out of 5

Really symbolized that this issue was all about Osborn. Even the Avengers would end up being the supporting cast.

Yes your right. And as we've said before Bendis stumbles most often in his implementation. Someone actually pointed out that they thought this arc was too short and compressed. In comparison, I think Dark Reign was that much better.

I actually liked this issue...in the SIEGE sort of way, if you can see what I mean. Bendis almost always botches his conclusions in Avengers stuff so I think I have gotten used to that disappointment and blocked it out by now.

Always good to hear your say, tom. Keep it up. :)
I look forward to what he does with AvX. Like you said, Simonson being in the mix definitely makes the prospect interesting!

Still the combo of Guedes, Acuna, and Bendis didn't do it for me and I felt let down. The plot was too fractured and at times pretty befuddling. Acuna was a breath of fresh air after Guedes but still something has been missing that I hope Simonson with his great reputation can fix. As far as the team goes I am particularly happy with the female heroes so far; That would include Quake, Storm, and Jessica. I'm still not a big fan of Ross, but I am intrigued by Skarr. I really can't understand the inclusion of Nor Varr whose role has been so obscure its irritating me now. Having the big three there is always a plus ... and as far as the Vision is concerned, he's one of my favorites but the manner in which Bendis introduced him was so dissappointing and underwhelming I feel conflicted that he's on the team. Where does Wanda come into this? Obviously Simon remains at large. I think this series needs a lengthy involved plot not unlike what Hickman did in reviving the FF. That said after much thought I'd be excited to see Hickman come aboard ... let the renaissance begin!
